REMCo is the Retail Market Administrator for the contestable gas retail
markets in Western Australia. REMCo's role is to administer the business processes between the gas market businesses
in Western Australia that allow gas retailers
to cost effectively compete for the supply of gas to over 620,000
customers.
Prior to 1 October 2009, REMCo was the Retail Market Administrator for both the Western Australian and South Australian gas retail markets. REMCo commenced operation in Western Australia on 31 May 2004 and in South Australia on 28 July 2004.
However, REMCo transferred responsibility for administration of the South Australian gas retail market to the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) on 1 October 2009, and is now a Western Australian only operation.
